Investigate and apply a variety of art techniques in creative work

“Persistence”
contemporary Squash blossom style necklace.
please see capstone tab for material list.
fall 2020
I chose this style necklace because it is an iconic style of Native American art. Making this necklace I learned how to make silver beads. I cut them out, stamped on them to make floral designs, filed them and tamped them into dome shapes before filing them flush again and soldering the two halves to one bead. I then filed them one more time before polishing and stringing them into the final necklace. I chose to highlight this method because I plan to continue making silver beads for a future more dainty Squash blossom and or Navajo pearls.

“Sisters”
7″ X 10″ 80 lb. Paper
Micron Pen
Winter 2021
This piece is done in continuous line and I had not heard of this technique before the class. I used different colours to layer the different plants to make one coherent image with many different symbols. I have featured this image here because it contains symbolism that I plan on using in future projects and I will use elements of continuous line in all my future drawings.

“El Castillo”
20″ X 28″ 200 lb. Bamboo Paper
Charcoal and Pencil
Winter 2021
This project has many different values of shading. I had struggled with value so on this piece I used all the various hardness or pencil and applied them in layers before using the charcoal to go hard on black to get my dark tones. I left open space to get a bright highlight where no charcoal or graphite hit and then brought the black next to the highlights to really make them pop.

“The Way Forward”
4; 16″ X 12″ panels
Acrylic Paint on Canvas
fall 2020
I chose to feature this abstract quadric because it demonstrates the taping technique I learned during my time at SKC. I used different combinations of depths and different widths of tape to try and make a cohesive piece that works while being arranged in many different ways. I am highlighting taping because it is tempting to continue with as a whole in abstracts but can be used to any other style beside abstract as well.

“Morning Dragon on the Salish”
20″ X 49″
Acrylic Paint on Canvas
Fall 2020
This was my first piece where I have used under painting to give a painting more of a fullness and depth of feel. I painted all three layers; the background, mid, and foreground in different colours to try and give the painting as a whole a more fullness and depth.
