“Flowers of the meadow revel in glorious sunshine”
Pat Hurley

I have been told to look for blank spaces that are in need of a mural for a long time now. The same person who told me that always talked about wanting to see the blank light pole bases along the campus touched with color. Maybe he was sowing the seeds in my head that wound up with me being here today. I don’t have the time to do all the poles on campus so I went about to find which ones I could accomplish during this class while not falling behind on my studies in my other courses. I chose the hill leading to the new part of campus by the quarry pond because it has always been a relaxing place with the sounds of birds chirping in the trees where you can watch the ducks do their duck business. Public art can increase foot traffic and maybe more art being concentrated in this area will draw attention to the memorial bench and the Native Plant Restoration project which are in the same area. These pictures up above are a quick preview of what the end product will look like. You can click on them to enlarge the pictures if you would like.

When I was thinking of what would make a good miniature mural subject I wanted to pick something that is important to the campus culture. I landed on the flowers of culturally important edible plants. After consulting with my mentor and acquiring a list of plants I started studies in pencil. When I was confident in the form of these species I went on to designing stencils. I wanted to create minimalist designs while learning a new medium. If you don’t think the stylized designs will fit well with campus culture I will be more than happy to use more of a traditional painting method for the murals. Thank you very much for your time and considering me and my proposal.

- This was for a class where I had to propose a piece of public art. thank you for taking your time and looking at it.
- I would edit it so that it sounded better, but I’m keeping it as if for posterity
